CAPE of GOOD HOPE

True canal side pub, the water is a few feet from the front door, adjacent to Cape top lock on the Grand Union Canal.
Built just after the canal opened in 1800, it has given its name to the canal locks, the street and the surrounding district.
A painting in the rear lounge explains the story of its name. It has a traditional bar at the front, and an enlarged lounge at the rear.
